Garrett Gensler Rochelle Athlete 6'1 190 Class of 2023

Garrett Gensler how was your junior season? My junior season was an experience that I will be forever grateful for. My team and I had a successful season finishing 8-3 and making it to the second round of the playoffs. We had a lot of good players that meshed well together. I feel that I grew as a player and a leader this year. Overall, it was a great experience to be on the field and compete against other good athletes and teams. I think our team had a great season and my coaches, teammates, and I are looking to build off it looking to next season. What should college coaches know about you? College coaches should know that I am a team first, hard-working leader that does what it takes to win. I am also a versatile athlete that plays both sides of the ball. My competitive nature is one of my strongest attributes. I always work my hardest to reach my goals and I bring others with me. What does football mean to you? Football is everything to me. Apart from my schooling and family, football is my main priority. It has brought me some of my best moments and life lessons; I am grateful for the game. I enjoy myself the most while competing with my teammates on the field, and I hope to continue my football career in college. What do you feel is your strongest trait on the football field? I think my strongest trait on the field is my versatility. I run hard, block till the whistle, make tackles in space, get off blocks, fill gaps, and help orchestrate the rest of the defense. However, another trait that may be my best is my motor. As the end of the game comes around and everyone is tired and quits, I thrive in the tough environment because I want it more than the others. What part of your game do you plan on working on in the offseason? I mostly plan on improving my speed and strength in order to become a better overall athlete, but off the field I have been working on being a better leader for my teammates. I’ve spent lots of time so far working on my speed, and many hours in the weight room.

Who else on Rochelle should I keep an eye out for the upcoming season? Keep an eye out for Trey Taft, Cody Cullum, and Jaden Cook. Trey is a quick wingback with great burst and agility. He also plays outside linebacker and has very good technique in coverage while still coming down to make plays in the run game. Cody is a fullback/ linebacker that is very aggressive on the field. He runs hard, blocks well, and makes a lot of tackles on defense. Jaden is looking to become a three-year starter with me, for he has been a huge part of our success on the line. He’s out there getting pancakes all game and is a problem for opposing D-lineman.
