So, in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know, but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams. This is one of the many reasons why Deep Dish Football is respected in the IHSA. Every Football Player Has A Story To Tell

Nico Bertolino Belvidere North Athlete Class Of 2024 5'9 160

Nico Bertolino how was your junior season? I think my team and I had a great season. We worked hard all year. Unfortunately, our season was sadly cut short in our first playoff game. We were also battling injuries all season long. But, I had a blast with all of my teammates this season. We were the first team in school history to go 7-0 and beat Hononegah and Boylan in the same season. What does football mean to you? Football to me is more than just a game. It’s about family and building friendships that will last a lifetime. The bonds that I’ve created with some of the guys on my team feels like they’re my brothers and not just teammates. Playing at home with our whole town behind us supporting is an indescribable feeling. What should college coaches know about you? I have a strong sense of commitment to my team, high football IQ, mental toughness, stamina, speed and quickness. My field positions and responsibilities are very important to me and I do my job. What do you feel is your strongest trait on the football field? I think leadership is my strongest trait. I may not be the most vocal leader, but I lead by example. Coaches constantly use me as an example for not only what I do on the field, but for what I do off the field as well. I have been told many times by my coach that I am a role model for my teammates on the field and in the classroom. What is one part of your game that you plan on working on in the offseason? I think I could really try to improve my balance. If I’m able to maintain my balance better while being hit, I think it’ll make it much harder to stop me when I have the ball in my hands.

What goals do you have for yourself this upcoming season? One big goal offensively is to reach 1,000 yards rushing in one season. Defensively, my goal is to have more than 50 tackles.
