Brock VanDeveer Champaign Central LB/ATH Class Of 2025 6'0 205
Brock VanDeveer how was your sophomore season? I started 9 games on Varsity and I got a lot of experience. I grew a lot as a player and as-well as leader. What does football mean to you? Football is a grind. It’s all those hours you’ve put in this off-season, just waiting for your chance to go show what you can do. What should college coaches know about you? I am a physical player with a “wont be outworked” mentality. I’m a wrestler as well and which has contributed a lot to my mental toughness.
What part of your game have you been working on in the offseason? As a 3-sport athlete, wrestling definitely improved my game drastically overall. I’ve also been lifting all off-season getting bigger, faster, dense, and explosive. Track also helped with my speed which was something I really needed to work on going into the off-season, which has increased a lot. This off-season I have gotten better in every aspect as a football player. How was your wrestling season? My wrestling season was very good. It was my first year wrestling in high school. I wrestled 195 and I ended the season about 32-10. I was one match away from making state. Wrestling made me a better athlete because I found myself in a lot of matches and situations where I had to get used to being uncomfortable and dig deeper than I knew I could. How has wrestling made you a better football player? The biggest part of wrestling is your mental toughness and that is how is has helped the most. Wrestling pushed me to my limits so many times and I always used it as a opportunity to test myself and see if I had it in me. As someone who always wants to win, I always give 100% and leave it all on the mat. I also know I’ll be able to directly translate wrestling technique to tackling technique and being able to make those big time stops on defense.
What would be your dream school to attend? Growing up I’ve always watched the Illinois football games and been a huge fan of the team. That would be my dream school to play at. I love going to the games and hopefully one day I’ll play in them. What goals do you have for yourself this upcoming season? I want to rack up 100+ tackles and be a All-State Linebacker. What summer college camps are you planning to attend? At the moment I will definitely be at Lake Forrest Mega Camp on June 11th. I also want to go to McKendree, EIU, and Illinois for their camps.
