Chatting With Ridgewood Athlete Majd Saleh Class Of 2024 About Ridgewood Success

So, in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know, but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams. This is one of the many reasons why Deep Dish Football is respected in the IHSA. Every Football Player Has A Story To Tell

Majd Saleh Ridgewood Athlete 5'9 165 Class Of 2024

Majd Saleh how is your season going so far? Couldn’t have started better we’re 2-0 looking to get another win over Dwight this week. Still a lot to prove though this is year 2 of changing our program around. We’ve always been the underdogs and I’ve got a lot to prove as a player my senior year. What does football mean to you? It means everything to me. Ever since we got our new coaching staff, I realized the opportunity I had right in front of me. I invested my summers waking up at 5 every day to lift, run and get better. I play every game like it’s my last and I’ve built an unbelievable bond with my teammates. It’s where I feel like I don’t have any other worry in the world. How good can this Ridgewood team be? We have a chance to be the best we’ve been in a very long time. With the investment that the coaches and players have put in we have an unreal opportunity to be something truly special. The players have an ambition to be great and the coaches are nothing but the best and are setting us up for success. If we continue to have good days at practice and lock in, we will be a team to remember. We’re going to go far.

Who on Ridgewood is having a breakout season? I think we have a couple guys who are going to do great this year. Mike C is just a sophomore doing great things at defense end. Luke Melendez is a junior who is definitely going to be a name to look out for. Gil Mendoza is an absolute beast on the o line. Julian Lunas definitely having a big impact on us defensively and Niall Kenny is a great receiver. I feel like I’m also going to have a great year I just had a game with around 100 yards receiving 2 touchdowns and an interception, 6 tackles. Our QB Jaden Rodriguez is also doing great leading us offense. What do you feel is your strongest trait on the football field? My athletic ability for sure. I started off as a quarterback my freshman year. Then moved to safety and receiver my sophomore year and found where I belonged my junior and senior year when I started to play receiver, outside linebacker and running back. I believe I have the ability to virtually play any skill position. I start on both sides of the ball and on special teams. Playing both ways helps with understanding what we’re trying to do offensively and defensively which helps me understand what other teams try to do to us and how to beat them.

What goals do you have for yourself rest of the season? I feel like having personal goals is good and all but if it doesn’t help the team win it doesn’t matter. My ultimate goal is to have a long run in the playoffs and prove we’re a playoff caliber team. On the other hand, I’m striving to have around 600 total yards, around 8 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Also want to be up there in team tackles.

Who is the funniest player on Ridgewood team? Honestly our head coach. When Coach Fanelli isn’t working us hard he’s a naturally funny guy. Half the time he doesn’t mean to be funny, and he just is.
