So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams
Sam Buck Class of 2021 Highland OL/DL 6'2 270
Sam Buck how was your 2018 season?
My 2018 season was pretty successful I’d say. I was named first team all conference right guard and first team all conference defensive tackle in the MVC. And our team went to the state quarterfinals in 2018. Luckily I was able to stay injury free all season and that’s always a huge plus.
What schools have you talked to?
I haven’t really talked to any schools yet as a sophomore but I did go to a camp at Illinois state where I did pretty well and I’m going to a combine in the spring. I’m hoping I’ll get the opportunity to talk to more schools during or after my junior season
What does Highland football mean to you?
To me highland football is a way of life. There’s not much to do around here and the whole town looks forward to Friday nights to watch the team play. We play fast and we play physical which allows us to be dominant. We don’t like to lose
What do you feel you need to improve in your game this offseason?
I’d say the things I need to work on most is my upper body strength, my pass sets and just staying balanced, and my foot work speed for d line.
What game are you most looking forward to in the 2019 season?
There are 2 games I’m looking forward to in the 2019 season the first one everyone looks forward to it because it’s our rivalry game against triad high school it’s been going on for many years and almost everyone in the area goes to it. The other game is the Mascoutah game because they have a pretty big interior line and they are usually the next best competition in our conference.
What should college coaches know about you?
I think they should know that I’m a violent player. I take any chance to put someone on the ground legally. I have a deep love for the game and I feel like I’m pretty coachable.
Who are some young Highland players we should keep an eye out for?
I would definitely keep an eye on our whole offensive line. We are some physical guys all of us. And I’d say keep an eye on Reid Thole. He spent all last season practicing against Sam LaPorta which I feel has definitely helped to make him a better player. Also keep an eye on Logan Rensing. He’s going to be a sophomore in 2019 and he shows good signs of being able to play at the next level. He’s been working center reps lately and is looking to be our starting center next season
