So in a way to better understand the use of Deep Dish Football for Illinois recruits and the whole entire IHSA Football scene. Decided to do player profiles of players who you might not know or you might know , but you should respect them for their roles on their respective teams

Matthew Kickel Class Of 2019 Benet 6'5 295 OL

COACH BIG PETE'S TAKE

Matthew Kickel is one of the top elite offensive linemen for the Class of 2019 in Illinois. Great frame, and extension off the play with the ability to finish off blocks.

What schools have you been talking to? All schools I have been in contact with are as follows: University of San Diego, Norther Illinois University, Drake, Butler, UPenn, University of Illinois, Illinois State, Augustana, Valparaiso, Trinity International, Georgetown, Ball State, and Oberlin College. What schools have you visited? I visited all of the following schools: University of San Diego, Augustana, University of Illinois, Ball State, Drake, Butler, Northwestern, Lindenwood, University of Pennsylvania and Valpo. Any schools make a great impression on you? The University of San Diego made a great impression on me. The hospitality of the training staff and position coach made me feel welcomed. What would you like college coaches to know about? The first thing I would like college coaches to know is that I value my relationships with my teammates more than anything; I look at them as brothers on and off the field. I always give my all to assure my teams success in whatever way we need. One thing that I believe sets me apart from other lineman is that my size , whether that be bigger or smaller, does not effect my work ethic. I am very hard working and committed to the game that I love. Also, I train every day out of the week, which consists of a combination of working out with my team, speed training, skill training at Don Beebe’s House of speed, running hills and pool work with Lamont White, and speed and lifting on my own. Also, I am competitive, I am a leader, and I am versatile with my position, whether that be an OL or DL position. No one enjoys losing so my goal is to give all I have until the scoreboard hits 0:00. What motivates a Matthew Kickel? My motivation comes from leading my team and helping each person grow individually as a player and as a person. Throughout high school, I have been able to develop in every aspect of my football career and personal life helping me create goals that we (Benet Football) could achieve together. Our shared goal in this season is to go to state and and finish strong (2,7,5). Favorite memory from last season? My favorite memory would have to be the end of the quarterfinal game. With time running out we were down 3 and pressure was high. I tossed up a pass to Nick Keyes who made an unreal move to score and got us back into the semifinals! This moment was a perfect example of working our hardest to never let the score board or pressure get in the way of our final goal. What do you like about playing on the offensive line? I like that there is not much glamor in this position. You grind each and every day and its strength almost always depends on the five guys up front. This position requires discipline and technique which gives me great pride;pride in yourself, in your line, and in your team. What game are you looking most forward to? I am most looking forward to the Nazareth Academy game, September 21st. The environment of that game is like no other and the rivalry is intense. Both teams have been evenly matched in skill and style. Neither enjoys losing and each has a goal making this game so passionate and giving a little extra on this game.

Remember Deep Dish Football Is Just Not About Recruiting But About The Love Of The Game Of Football In The IHSA

RESPECT THE GAME
